Lust for Rust Call

Submission Deadline: December 15th, 2024

February 18th – March 8th, 2025

A Juried Group Exhibition with one grand prize:
One-week solo show at Atlantic Gallery, in NYC’s Chelsea Art District

JUROR
Ellen Hackl Fagan, Artist, curator, founder of Odetta

Atlantic Gallery, located in the historic Landmark Arts Building in Chelsea, invites artists to submit work for the upcoming juried show, Lust For Rust.

The seductive surfaces of a rusted door or pile of metal have been a source of inspiration for artists and filmmakers over the course of time. It’s our basic human instinct to elevate the underdog, the abandoned, the neglected, and give them renewed importance. Rust is the most visible result of entropy, yet rust also protects, often described as a sacrificial element in architecture. Rust is poetic, time-worn, and open to interpretation. Rust is impermanent, transient, organic in its beauty, and gritty: think Wabi-Sabi. We are seeking innovative artworks, 2D and 3D, that utilize painting, sculpture, cartooning or graphic novels, collage, and mixed media that communicates your lust for rust.

The juror and curator, Ellen Hackl Fagan, will award one artist a grand-prize of a one-week solo show at Atlantic Gallery at a future date.

A PDF catalog of the exhibition will be available.

Work Requirements:

Artists are invited to submit artwork, 2D or 3D, which illuminates the breadth of the concept of RUST. Mixed media, painting, collage and sculpture are acceptable.
