CONNECTING MOMENTS

New York, NY — Atlantic Gallery presents Connecting Moments, new paintings by artist and writer Nat Connacher, on view August 4–22, 2026, with an opening reception Thursday, August 6, from 6 to 8 pm.
Connecting Moments draws from a decade spent at his mother’s side as Alzheimer’s disease fragmented her memories. Built from fragments — individual panels reconfigured and joined — the works are not a document of loss but a record of what persists: resilience against an approaching darkness.
The exhibition’s centerpiece, On the Other Side (2026), traces the moment of diagnosis and the many hands that helped Nat’s mother walk into her future. What surprised Nat was not what the disease took, but what it could not reach — her sly sideways glance, her toothy grin, her eyes, her lipstick, her colorful sweaters.
The paintings evolved from his earlier Residue series, in which spontaneous compositions were built and then stripped back to uncover what lies beneath. For Connecting Moments, he curated excerpts from those works and joined them into multi-panel narratives of despair, resilience, and beauty.
“This is not just my mother’s Alzheimer’s story,” Nat writes. “It is our shared human story — a story that shows us that change, even unwelcomed, can bring beauty to an otherwise difficult time.”
