Anshu Malhotra
Artist Bio:
Anshu is a self-taught mixed-media artist and a woman of color. Her art is defined by rich textures and vibrant hues, especially in shades of blue and gold. She creates art in a variety of sizes, experimenting with organic materials like sand, mosaic, found fiber and paper to bring depth and dimension to her pieces. Influenced by her frequent travels and an eye for natural elements, Anshu transforms these textures into powerful expressions of resilience and joy.
Originally from Northern India, Anshu has lived a life dedicated to learning and exploring. She trained as a scientist and it was during her years of balancing a demanding career, motherhood, and family responsibilities that she found her way to art as a form of personal healing and creative release. Her work, often grounded in themes of mental wellness and joy, resonates with others looking to find beauty and calm amidst life’s challenges.
Currently based in New York City, Anshu draws inspiration from her surroundings and integrates both personal and natural elements into her art. Each piece is a unique celebration of color, texture, and self-expression – transforming everyday materials into works that invite viewers to experience her journey of discovery and transformation.
Artist Statement:
Anshu’s journey into the art world is an unexpected one: shaped by a PhD in Biology and years spent researching brain tumors. Although she was never formally trained as an artist, Anshu’s journey as a self-taught artist spans eight years of experimenting with various styles before discovering her passion for mixed media. Her work first gained recognition in a local community show, where it was warmly received. Buoyed by this early success, she went on to participate in prominent exhibitions, including the Clio Art Fair and Art Expo New York 2024, both of which were pivotal in her artistic development.
Her works have since been showcased in New York City’s Atlantic Gallery in shows like “Connections-VI” and “Generously Seasoned,” along with other notable galleries such as The Greenpoint Gallery, Detox Gallery, and AWITA New York Studio. These exhibitions have allowed Anshu to connect with a wider audience and further develop her artistic voice, merging her scientific insights with her passion for art in truly transformative ways.
