Shape of Color
The Paintings of Roni Sherman Ramos
April 23 – May 11, 2019
Opening reception: Thurs, April 25; 5 pm-8:30 pm
Atlantic Gallery announces the opening of a solo exhibition of new works by Brooklyn-based artist, Roni Sherman Ramos. Her fourth solo exhibition at the Gallery will feature abstract paintings from 2018-2019. Most of the pieces are oil or watercolor along with a mixed media collection.
The show’s title, Shape of Color, refers to the artist’s invitation to take notice of how color and shape interact to impress the eye. Influenced by light and shadow, dense or transparent, her work is moody and multilayered. Undertones are revealed as a product of sanding, scraping and gouging, described by the artist as an “excavation” that allows the history of each work to show through.
The work of this artist is influenced by her environment, both urban and natural, and is especially reflective of her extended visits within Mexico. “I feel that I’m channeling my surroundings, that whatever appears on the surface I’m engaged with has come through me rather than of me.”
Roni Sherman Ramos is a lifelong artist who works out of her home studio in Brooklyn, New York. She has taken the Master Abstraction Workshop at Mass MoCa with the internationally-noted Judith Kruger, and continues her study with the noted art teacher, Andrew Reiss.
