Atlantic Gallery announces the opening of REMAINS TO BE SEEN, a solo exhibition by Karen Adelaar. Karen is an artist with studios in Manhattan and Dutchess County, New York. Her second exhibition at the Atlantic Gallery will feature mostly new work from 2018 and 2019. This show will include Paintings, Sculpture, and Assemblage. Paintings are acrylic, Oil Mixed Media and Encaustic. Sculptures were fired in a variety of kilns including Wood, Raku, and Electric. Assemblage combines many different elements including Wood, Metal, Wax, Fiber, and Bone.
The show’s title “Remains To Be Seen” alludes to the intuitive way she works.
Remnants from her past overlap and merge unconsciously as she moves seamlessly from one medium to another with no end in sight.
Karen Adelaar was the Director of the Ceramics Program at Marymount Manhattan College for 20 years where she also taught and managed the Ceramic Studio. Prior to that she owned and operated Just Desserts, a small retail bakery on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. As an apprentice to a Master Taxidermist for five years, she specialized in Birds and Small Mammals. She also spent a year at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. There she helped to set up and organize the Discovery Room, a new interactive space for children and adults.
Karen Adelaar participated in many juried national shows and has exhibited in local galleries in upstate New York and in Manhattan.
