Membership Opportunities
Atlantic Gallery is a professional organization of independent artists who own and operate a gallery strategically located in an attractive space in Chelsea. Since its founding in 1974, Atlantic Gallery has had as its defining goals, the promotion of art of the highest standards and the advancement of its members’ careers.
Atlantic Gallery members work in a variety of styles and media and value experimentation. Membership in the gallery affords artists creative freedom and control over the content of their work. Pricing is determined by the artist, as is the way the work is described in public relations and advertising. Atlantic Gallery artists direct the installation and publicity of their shows. Some of the exhibition expenses are borne by the Gallery and others are borne by the exhibiting artist. Artists may also stage events such as poetry readings and book launches in conjunction with their shows.
Members are guaranteed shows on a regular basis. In return, members contribute a one-time initiation fee and monthly maintenance payments. Members participate in the Gallery’s meetings and activities. Typically, members can count on a three-week semi-solo show every 12-18 months, although, at a higher monthly maintenance level, members can also have one-person exhibitions. Members are also assured inclusion in themed and invitational group shows mounted by the gallery. Please ask the Gallery Manager or President for information about current fees.
Members maintain their professional freedom — they are not limited to showing only with Atlantic Gallery.
The gallery’s commission on sales of members’ work is minimal – currently 20%.
Atlantic Gallery maintains a mailing list of more than 900 collectors and friends of the Gallery, as well as an extensive electronic list of the same. Each artist is given a page on the Atlantic Gallery Website, which is linked to the artist’s personal Website. All exhibitions are listed in Gallery Guide.
