Carol Crawford

Carol Crawford’s work in fine arts draws upon her broad background in documentary photography, filmmaking, printmaking, and theater set design. It both informs, and is enriched by, her work as an interior and environmental designer. She is on the faculty of Pratt Institute. Her creative work and public art projects have been recognized by numerous grants and awards. They have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in the U.S., Canada, Japan and Europe.

”All works are mixed media constructions. Materials are very important to me as vehicles of expression. I consider materials as powerfully evocative as images because of their connotations and properties, and I use them in various combinations according to the message I wish to convey. My range of media includes photography, wood, acrylics, paint, graphics, collage [earth, stone, plaster…] metal, stone…and projections and film; and I am constantly researching for new, and sustainable, materials and methods to use. I teach classes in the use of Colors and Materials as expression in interior environments to graduate and undergraduate students in the Interior Design Department at Pratt.”
