The Landscape Listens. Images of sky, sea and land emerge from fields of color in Meera Thompson’s work. She explains:
“These near abstractions of distant places represent a journey into imagination— an exploration of the way the past can be present in our vision. When we search our memories for certain views, what we see is their gradual unfolding and their cumulative effects on us—their places in our histories. A sense of place expands into a state of mind.”
Meera Thompson graduated from Vassar College, earned an M.F.A. at Boston University and teaches at New York University.

Phyllis Chillingworth
Echo

Describing her painting, Chillingworth reveals:
“I use the events that I observe in nature so that I can bring to others an echo of what resonates in me. Writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Rainer Maria Rilke have inspired me to search for my own fresh experience, with authenticity. The rhythm and transitory aspect in nature is transformative, I believe this connection is especially essential today.”
Phyllis Chillingworth lives in New York City and Montauk. She earned a B.S. from The Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology and a B.F.A./M.F.A. from The Yale School of Art and Architecture.
